Science Park Legislation Introduced in the House
On Jan 12th, U.S. Representatives Gabrielle Giffords (D -AZ) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM) introduced “The Science Parks Research and Innovative New Technologies Act
” (SPRINT Act - H.R.4413). The legislation would authorize the Department of Commerce to establish a $7.5 million competitive grants program for feasibility studies for the development and construction of new science parks and the expansion of existing ones.
“Science parks are the best way to harness the intellectual output of our universities and use it to have a direct, positive impact on our economy and quality of life,” said Rep. Giffords, a member of the House Science and Technology Committee.
This bill is a companion to the Senate bill “Building a Stronger America Act
" that we highlighted a few weeks back. The Senate bill was introduced by Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and has been approved by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
