A Voice for Young Entrepreneurs in G20 Meetings

Posted by: Jonathan Ortmans on June 20, 2010 Source: Policy Dialogue on Entrepreneurship

This week on June 20-22, I will be speaking and participating at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit hosted by the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. The event, recognized by the Canadian government as an official G20 event, will bring together delegations from leading entrepreneurship organizations from the G20 nations to identify and examine ways to boost youth entrepreneurship around the world.

The discussions will result in the development of a communiqué identifying key policy areas that policymakers should check for barriers to entrepreneurship in order to maximize the economic potential of young entrepreneurs in their respective economies. The communique will be presented to world leaders who will meet in Toronto for the G20 Business Summit (B20) on June 25 – 26 and for the fourth G20 summit on June 26 and 27, 2010.

The G20 was established in 1999 in the wake of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis to bring together major advanced and emerging economies to stabilize the global financial market. Since its inception, the G20 has held annual Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meetings and discussed measures to promote global financial stability and sustainable economic growth. Recognizing that young, innovative entrepreneurs are essential to global economic growth, key leaders from the G20 nations will this time exchange ideas with entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial experts to work towards creating a more entrepreneurial world. It will be an exciting week.
