Kickstarting Startups in Qatar

One hundred years of banked future hydrocarbon revenues, massive investments in higher education and a common legal framework based on western law all offer this small nation—the size of Connecticut—tremendous potential to be a hub for startups in the GCC. I find it curious therefore that at Qatar’s famous “Doha Forum” I participated in today, entrepreneurship and startups were not on the agenda.

US Veterans Turn to Entrepreneurship

A new study by the SBA Office of Advocacy shows that veterans are at least 45 percent more likely to be self-employed than civilians who have never served in the military. While self-employment doesn't necessarily equal entrepreneurship, it is certainly one available measuring stick.

Economics Bloggers See Rain Clouds Ahead

Each quarter, the country’s top economics bloggers share their opinions on the U.S. economy – and the most recent results aren’t favorable. After a somewhat sunnier outlook earlier this year, the dark clouds are rolling in on the horizon. According to the second quarter Kauffman Economic Outlook, 85 percent of respondents view current economic conditions as “mixed” or “facing recession,” an increase of 8 percent from first quarter.
