Entrepreneurs & ‘The Coming Prosperity’

A new book out takes a look at the long-term trends that are ushering in a new era of global prosperity—and you can probably guess the common thread. ‘The Coming Prosperity: How Entrepreneurs are Transforming the Global Economy’ offers analysis of economic and historical trends brought to life through the stories of entrepreneurs making a difference.

Philip Auerswald, an economist and senior fellow at the Kauffman Foundation who also regularly publishes the Innovations journal, argues that the “productive power of people” is often overlooked in favor of stories about competition over scarce resources.

"Philip Auerswald shows the role that innovators must play if we are to create "The Coming Prosperity." In this important book, he reminds us that challenging the status quo is the inescapable first step toward building the future of our dreams." said President Bill Clinton, Founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd president of the United States.

Among the stories featured in the book are those of Karim Khoja, who led the creation of the first mobile phone company in Afghanistan; Leila Janah, who is bringing "outsourced" computer work to refugee camps and economically marginalized communities around the world; and Victoria Hale, whose non-profit pharmaceutical company turned an orphan drug into a cure for kala-azar (black fever).

"The book combines skillful analysis of economic trends with stories of entrepreneurs making transformative differences in their communities and throughout the world." says Robert Strom, director of research and policy at the Kauffman Foundation.
