This Week in Entrepreneurship Policy

Entrepreneurial pulse

It looks to be a very active week on Capitol Hill for hearings related to the entrepreneurial economy. A collection of legislative proposals to help startups and young firms raise capital will be up for discussion in front of the House Committee on Financial Services. And while the Senate Committee on Armed Services doesn't show up frequently in this weekly post, the director of DARPA (which is widely recognized for its role in the development of the internet) heads a collection of research, tech and engineering witnesses from the Department of Defense on the agency's role in science and technology enterprise for innovation and affordability. Also, USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah makes the rounds on the House and Senate sides while discussing U.S. priorities international development priorities for 2015 -- and certainly to highlight the agency's Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) initiative, a quarterly grant competition for innovative ideas that it pilots and tests to help scale solutions that demonstrate widespread impact. Other topics covered include: using prize competitions to spur innovation and entrepreneurship, fighting patent trolls, tax reform for small business owners, the SBA 2015 budget and more.
