Global Scholars to Include U.S. Applicants

Cameron Cushman on October 04, 2011 Source: e360 Blog

Every American who dreams of building a great company must know that having an international presence is not an option in this globalized economy. It's the new reality. U.S. startups can no longer thrive exclusively in the domestic market, and the importance of fostering a young generation of global entrepreneurs is more important than ever. Globally oriented American entrepreneurs will be vital to the U.S. economic recovery and prosperity. The Kauffman Global Scholars program provides a world-class opportunity for U.S. college graduates with innovative ideas for a new global business.

The Kauffman Foundation is expanding its successful Global Scholars Program to include up to ten recent graduates from U.S. colleges and universities who will join other scholars from around the world. In years past, the Global Scholars Program worked exclusively with governments and organizations of five different countries, however, this is the first time the program has been open to applicants from the United States.

The program offers an experience to the participants that will develop their entrepreneurial skills, ideas, competencies, and capabilities to start a business with a global vision and global reach. Over the course of the six-month program, the 2012 class of global scholars will meet and engage with leading scholars and thinkers, policy leaders, innovative researchers, and business founders. Building on their existing expertise, they will have the opportunity to further develop their skills in the direction of entrepreneurship and the creation of innovative businesses. I think this is an outstanding opportunity for young entrepreneurs who will bring forth new ideas, create the jobs of the future, and build wealth for society.

There are less than two weeks to apply to be in the first class of U.S. Global Scholars. Applications can be submitted at www.kauffman.org/USglobalscholars, and must be completed by Oct. 17, 2011. The U.S. Scholars will be selected in November 2011 and will begin the six-month program in January 2012.
