ATDC Entrepreneurs Night

4/18/2013 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Dr. Tim Fox is the co-founder of Velocity Medical Solutions, LLC, based in Atlanta, Georgia. The passion to improve cancer treatment outcomes is the undercurrent that drives Velocity’s innovative software design for oncologists. In just a few short years, Velocity has gained recognition as a provider of leading edge, software-driven solutions enabling the clinical use of oncology imaging for the assessment of therapeutic targets. Fox’s belief in tailored patient treatment is only realized through the use of better imaging tools that allow physicians to be at the forefront of implementing novel cancer therapies.

Today medical scans produce thousands of images and terabytes of data for a single cancer patient, but how do doctors analyze this information and determine what is useful? As a personalized treatment monitoring tool, medical imaging significantly changes patient management and selection of treatment options based on continuously monitoring treatment-induced changes. Dr. Fox, an expert in cancer imaging and co-founder of Velocity Medical Solutions, presents "Big data approach to image-guided cancer therapies", and discusses its long term impact on cancer patient management and outcomes.

Dr. Fox received his Ph.D. in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering from Georgia Tech, and he certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics. He is currently Director of Medical Physics for the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. For the past twenty years, he has provided leadership for Radiation Oncology at Emory University in the clinical service, teaching and research areas where over 3000 cancer patients are treated annually. He is author/co-author on more than fifty research articles and abstracts as well as four book chapters.
