Human Factors of Social Robotics
Presented by Ifat Yaakobi
CapCHI will be hosting our next event at the Fox & Feather Pub and Grill!
Date: Tuesday April 16th, 2013
Time: doors open at 6:00 pm; talk begins at 6:30 pm
Place: The upstairs room at the Fox & Feather Pub and Grill, located at 283 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON, Canada (foxandfeather.ca).
Imagine a robot that guides children with their physiotherapy exercise. Imagine a robot that plays
a game with seniors and by doing so improves their health. Imagine a robot that functions as
a diet coach. You do not have to imagine – they all exist and are being studied in social robots
laboratories around the world.
The goal of this presentation is to introduce the concept of social robots. We will discuss the
guidelines for creating better social robots from the point of view of the user that interacts with
them. We will talk about appearance, personality, behavior and emotional design. During the talk
we will see many examples of currently existing social robots and discuss its design.
