Definition: Valley of Death

Considered the most difficult funding stage for startups, the Valley of Death occurs after entrepreneurs have exhausted friends, family, and personal credit and before they're ready for external funding. It can be a struggle for early-stage companies to stay afloat during this stage.

To some, the Valley of Death is simply a culling of the herd. But there are resources to help entrepreneurs who want to cross this perilous valley, including a Kauffman Foundation report.
