Definition: Beta test

A beta test is considered the final stage of testing prior to the commercial release of a product or service.

A beta test is typically preceded by an alpha test, during which a product or service is tested by users within the developing organization. In a beta test, the test users are typically outside the organization that has developed the product or service.
