E-Verify is a free Internet-based system that allows employers to confirm the legal working status of new hires in seconds. Operated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA). E-Verify provides an automated link to federal databases to help employers determine employment eligibility of new hires. With one click, E-Verify can match your new hire's Social Security Number and other Form I-9 information. E-Verify reduces unauthorized employment, minimizes verification-related discrimination, and protects employees’ civil liberties and privacy. An initial verification query returns results within 3 to 5 seconds. When you visit our Web site at www.dhs.gov, you can also sign up for an E-Verify Webinar. The Webinar is a live Internet-based seminar that you can attend without leaving your office. Our Webinars are interactive, which means you will have the opportunity to have open dialogue with the presenter and ask questions. E-Verify Self Check ("Self Check"), a service that allows you to check your employment eligibility in the United States. Once you have confirmed your employment eligibility using Self Check, you are unlikely to encounter difficulties upon being hired by an E-Verify participating employer.

Under this system of protection, American industry has flourished. New products have been invented, new uses for old ones discovered, and employment opportunities created for millions of Americans. The strength and vitality of the U.S. economy depends directly on effective mechanisms that protect new ideas and investments in innovation and creativity. The continued demand for patents and trademarks underscores the ingenuity of American inventors and entrepreneurs.
