Best B-schools for Entrepreneurship?

There is a growing realization that entrepreneurs don’t necessarily have to emerge from business schools—some emerge through other academic disciplines like engineering or music, some drop out of school to pursue their startups, and some avoid post-secondary education altogether. But that doesn’t mean that entrepreneurs can’t come from business schools. And if you ask business school students themselves, they would tell you that the Worcester Polytechnic Institute is at the top of the list.

Universities and Startup Junkies Come to Washington?

While politicians are out of town campaigning, the nation’s capital has been welcoming leaders in entrepreneurship education from America’s colleges and universities. Following a warm up from the younger “Empact” entrepreneurship education advocates, I joined a packed summit of university and community college presidents at the White House put together by the Commerce Department’s Nish Acharya, and then spoke this past Friday at Jeff Reid’s Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers conference at Georgetown University. It is increasingly clear that America’s colleges and universities have been retooling as engines of entrepreneurship and innovation.

How Do We Strengthen US Competitiveness

In a world where seemingly every nation is scrambling to bolster innovation and entrepreneurship, how can the U.S. strengthen its competitiveness? According to a new report from the Department of Commerce, the formula is simple and based on looking at the country’s track record for promoting innovation—increased government funding for research, education and infrastructure. It argues that “failures to properly invest in, and have comprehensive strategies for” those three pillars are responsible for the shrinking gap between the US and other nations.

'Learn to Earn Act' Introduced

While hundreds of US colleges, universities and high schools were celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA, a new bill was introduced to Congress that encourages participation in entrepreneurship education programs. Kauffman Accepting Proposals for 2012 Dissertation Fellowship Program

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation announced today that it will award up to 15 Dissertation Fellowship grants of $20,000 each to Ph.D., D.B.A. or other doctoral students for the support of dissertations in the area of entrepreneurship. Kauffman Labs Tabs 25 Aspiring Founders in Education Market

Kauffman Labs for Enterprise Creation announced the selection of its inaugural class of the Education Ventures Program, which will immerse 25 aspiring entrepreneurs in an intensive, hands-on program designed to catalyze the creation of high-growth companies in the education sector.
