Financing Growth: Helping More Americans Help Entrepreneurs

In his State of the Union Address next week, President Obama will shift gears back to job creation after his inauguration speech focused on wider themes. As the debate about how the government can help the economy regain its pre-recession strength enters a new phase, the Kauffman Foundation’s annual “State of Entrepreneurship Address” last week in Washington, DC, focused on how financial constraints have been blocking the success of new and young firms that create most of the net new jobs.

State of Entrepreneurship Address Available via Live Webcast

If you can’t make it to Washington, DC, tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 5) for the Kauffman Foundation’s State of Entrepreneurship Address, don’t worry, it will be streamed live online. The session, scheduled for 12 noon ET at the National Press Club, features remarks from SBA Administrator Karen Mills, Senator Jerry Moran and new Kauffman president and CEO, Tom McDonnell.

New Leadership Named at Kauffman Foundation

The Board of Trustees of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation last week announced the election of Thomas A. McDonnell as the Foundation's new president and chief executive officer. McDonnell, an experienced business leader with a track record of building global organizations that are both innovative and philanthropic, recently stepped down as CEO of DST Systems, Inc. He has been a Kauffman trustee since 2003 and chairman of the board since 2006. McDonnell succeeds Carl Schramm, who served as the Foundation's president and CEO from 2002 to 2011. Since January of this year, Kauffman trustee Benno Schmidt has served as interim CEO while the board conducted a national search for a new leader.
