2009 Hot Research Topics: Entrepreneurship, Jobs and Recovery

The nation's largest funder of entrepreneurial research, theEwing Marion Kauffman Foundation, announced that the most popular research in 2009 explored pastrecession trends and entrepreneurs' roles in economic recoveries.

The Kauffman Foundation has compiled throughout the year itsmost in-demand research, which was mentioned in news stories generating morethan 5 billion media impressions. Data on economic recovery trends, jobcreation and the role of entrepreneurs are among the Foundation's most quoted,requested, viewed and downloaded studies in 2009.

Here are some of the mostin-demand reports from the Kauffman Foundation:

"Because we are the'foundation of entrepreneurship,' our work is done through the lens of how firmformation and expansion affect the economy," said Robert Litan, vicepresident of research and policy at the Kauffman Foundation. "Our researchconsistently shows that young firms are the driving force of new jobs andgrowth. This information is obviously more important than ever, and we will bereleasing more data on these topics in 2010."

Well, of course. Small business can compete much easier now then they could 10 years ago. The internet has leveled the playing field to an extent. In many cases, smaller companies that can adapt and change quickly have an advantage of old, large companies. This growth trend is not surprising in the least.
