Global Entrepreneurship Congress Looks to November

Last November, an entrepreneurial revolution started as more than 75 countries celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week with 25,000 activities. This week, representatives from more than 50 of those countries are gathered in Kansas City at the Kauffman Foundation to collaborate on plans for 2009.

I'm sitting in the middle of the opening session, and already the questions are starting to emerge. How do we extend the initiative to more countries? How can we strengthen coalitions in existing countries? What can be done to stimulate more cross-border collaboration?

To be sure, these are all important questions that will be tackled in working sessions over the next three days. Most inspiring however, is the fact that two messages have resonated among all organizations.

First, that Global Entrepreneurship Week is more critical now than when the concept emerged in late 2007 due to the smothering financial crisis that has crippled economies of all sizes. And most importantly, that entrepreneurs are essential to a speedy recovery.

Global Entrepreneurship Week will take place this year from November 16-22. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates from Kansas City.
