Technology Review has just published its latest list of ten emerging technologies which always provides interesting insight on cool new innovations.
What's hot this year? How about "modeling surprise" -- the use of data mining and computer models to help predict and foresee unusual events. Or, graphene transistors, which deploy a new carbon material that will speed the performance of communications chips. Connectomics also makes the list. It refers to the science of mapping synaptic connections within the brain. These "maps" offer a promising tool for understanding diseases like autism and schizophrenia.
The "10 Emerging Technologies" article appears in Technology Review's February 27, 2009 issue
