New Bills to Support Green and Women’s Entrepreneurship

Posted by: Mark Marich on May 06, 2009 Source: Policy Dialogue on Entrepreneurship

The House Small Business Rural Development, Entrepreneurship and Trade Subcommittee approved a series of bills last Thursday (04/30) to authorize and expand several Small Business Administration programs.

Some of these new bills have an interesting focus on "green entrepreneurs." For example, a bill sponsored by Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill) seeks to authorize $310 million for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program and fund courses in energy efficiency and green technology.

The subcommittee also approved legislation introduced by Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) authorizing $42 million in grant funding for women's entrepreneurship and small business development outreach.

Yet another approved bill authorizes funding for a volunteer program using retired small business owners and executives to provide counseling for small-business startups.

Fascinated to know why Green issues and women are paired -
It feels like both are the bottom of the pile - and while it makes me sound like a feminist - i only wanted to suggest it might be better to treat both separately.

Realise this is not your decision but wondered i you might
suggest a change.

Given entrepreneurship's potential to support economic growth, it is the policy goal of many governments to develop a culture of entrepreneurial thinking.
