A recent forum held at the Brookings Institution pulled together a fairly select group from the U.S. statistical agencies, academia, and other experts to discuss the current state of entrepreneurship and innovation data at the federal level. Following the Kauffman 2010 Interagency Forum on Entrepreneurship and Innovation Data, E.J. Reedy posted a fairly positive snapshot on his Data Maven blog.
The Kauffman Foundation, conveners of the Forum, has long pointed to a paucity of data on entrepreneurship. However, Reedy notes that "clearly the hard work of making progress on entrepreneurship and innovation measurement is underway at the agency level." His post, "Real progress in federal data," includes links to presentations and perspectives on the following efforts:
- Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Census Bureau
- Federal Reserve Board
- National Science Foundation
- Patent and Trademark Office
