Rutgers Hosts Urban Entrepreneurship Summit

Rutgers University hosted the Urban Entrepreneurship Summit on its Newark, New Jersey campus today to focus on initiatives to boost job growth in America's cities. The event was streamed live online and featured celebrity entrepreneur Russell Simmons, founder of Rush Communications.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker led a discussion on the steps the government has taken to empower minority and immigrant-run businesses; local, state and federal regulations to aid urban entrepreneurs including SBA loans, infrastructure bank and sustainable communities programs; and discuss ideas on celebrating, inspiring and accelerating startups and high-growth enterprise across sectors. The panel included Scott Case, CEO of the Startup America Partnership, Amy Rosen, president & CEO of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship and Marie Johns, deputy administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration among others.

The summit was organized by the White House Business Council, Office of Public Engagement and Domestic Policy Council along with the Rutgers Business School's Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (CUEED), Startup America Partnership, Mayor Cory Booker of Newark,  Russell Simmons, the Fund for Public Advocacy - Office of the New York City Public Advocate, Operation HOPE, the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Have you guys ever thought of investing in Africa where there is a lot of potential but lack of venture capital and resources is hampering the mobility of many young entrepreneurs?
