'Learn to Earn Act' Introduced

Posted by: Mark Marich on November 21, 2011 Source: Policy Dialogue on Entrepreneurship

While hundreds of US colleges, universities and high schools were celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA, a new bill was introduced to Congress that encourages participation in entrepreneurship education programs. Sponsored by Congressman Dave Loebsack of Iowa, the 'Learn to Earn Act of 2011' seeks to create incentives for states and local school districts to implement high-quality entrepreneurship programs in communities all across the country.

According to Amy Rosen, president and CEO of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, " This bill will help spark even greater interest around the U.S. in arming our young people with the basic skills, the motivation and the aspiration to seize hold of their futures, stay in school and plan for successful futures. When young people learn to see opportunity in the face of obstacles and are equipped with the mindset of an entrepreneur, they are better prepared for the workforce, for higher education and to be the job creators of the future."

This is very exciting news for the educational companies that are venturing into the private sector to dramatically change how we educate our kids. I believe that this generation needs to be taught the life skills that meet this centuries demands, and with this act we will meet the challenge!

I can see this as a tool to help minority intercity school students, by giving them a alternative to low paying dead end jobs. I have not read the bill yet, but my hopes is that as the school systems pick this up, businessowners are allowed to teach some of these classes based on life experiences.
