The House side of Capitol Hill comes to life this week with a few committee hearings of interest. A couple of hearings are set for Tuesday morning, right ahead of the Kauffman Foundation's State of Entrepreneurship Address, with another hearing on American competitiveness on Wednesday.
First up is the Judiciary Committee with a look at the immigration system with an accomplished panel of experts, including outspoken immigration reform advocate, Vivek Wadhwa, director of research at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. Expect the immigration debate to get a lot of visibility in the weeks and months ahead.
Regulation of the internet--or better, protecting it from regulation--is the topic of a hearing by the Energy & Commerce Committee following an effort in December to bring the internet under the regulatory purview of a United Nations agency.
The role of R&D in American competitiveness is the topic of discussion for the Science, Space and Technology Committee--with witnesses Richard Templeton, president and CEO of Texas Instruments, Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Renssalear Polytechnic Institute and Dr. Charles Vest, president of the National Academy of Engineering.
