The video features Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande, an Indian American venture capitalist and entrepreneur, who is co-founder of the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation at MIT and the Deshpande Foundation.

This Week in Entrepreneurship Policy

On the heels of the Kauffman Foundation’s State of Entrepreneurship Address, a couple of Congressional committees are taking a closer look at the economy. The House Small Business Committee is conducting a hearing on The State of the Small Business Economy that will focus on “current economic indicators that measure the health of the economy, with a specific focus on access to capital… (and) general economic concerns that small business owners will face in the coming year.” Meanwhile, the House Budget Committee will explore the Congressional Budget Office’s budget and economic outlook with CBO director Douglas Elmendorf and the Senate Budget Committee will look at the budget and economic outlook over the next 10 years. Other hearings include: comprehensive immigration reform, applications for IT research and development; innovation in education; manufacturing in American; outlook on energy and a review of the government’s approach toward unemployment.

FTC Report Examines Privacy in Mobile Marketplace

Mobile app developers are the lifeblood of startup communities everywhere—don’t take our word for it, just visit a Startup Weekend and see how many ideas are pitched for new smartphone applications. However, a new set of recommendations from the Federal Trade Commission may make things a bit more difficult for them, calling for new ways to help safeguard consumer privacy.

The House side of Capitol Hill comes to life this week with a few committee hearings of interest. A couple of hearings are set for Tuesday morning, right ahead of the Kauffman Foundation's State of Entrepreneurship Address, with another hearing on American competitiveness on Wednesday.

State of Entrepreneurship Address Available via Live Webcast

If you can’t make it to Washington, DC, tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 5) for the Kauffman Foundation’s State of Entrepreneurship Address, don’t worry, it will be streamed live online. The session, scheduled for 12 noon ET at the National Press Club, features remarks from SBA Administrator Karen Mills, Senator Jerry Moran and new Kauffman president and CEO, Tom McDonnell.

Stanford Top MBA Program for Entrepreneurship

Stanford business school students put it at the top of the list of business schools—at least in regards to its offerings for entrepreneurship. As part of its rankings of the best business schools from the class of 2012, Bloomberg Businessweek asked students at 82 U.S. and international schools to rank their entrepreneurship programs.
