1/13/2012 6:17 PM - 1/15/2012 10:17 PM

The fall of winter ensured at least one thing: the 3 most memorable days of one’s life. With the arrival of 14th January 2011, came to Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur one of the biggest entrepreneurial platforms for academicians, new-age entrepreneurs, eminent business personalities, venture capitalists and students to gather at one place and share their entrepreneurial endeavours and experiences, and to pledge to take entrepreneurship to greater scales. It was a gem that Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur has generated; it was Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2011.

From the extensive media coverage to lectures by bigwigs like Arjun Malhotra, Dominique Trempont, Vinod Dham, Sramana Mitra, Saanjeev Bhikchandani, Anand Sen etc., it was a place to be at. And this year, the theme was Clean Technology. It might be just a 3 day event , but not only did it give a lifetime experience of innovation and its execution but also with it one of the biggest opportunities to make a mark at the global level; a chance to be a successful entrepreneur.

GES 2011 played host to the first ever Global Entrepreneurship Conference in India. It was a platform where promotion of entrepreneurship could be discussed with a global perspective. The conference served as a conclave for discussion of opportunities and programs aimed towards promoting entrepreneurship in various universities in the world. The discussion helped refine each other’s ecosystem by learning from each other’s experiences. There were participations from USA, UK, Finland, Japan, Singapore and China.

GES 2011 also had Start-up-Camp – an invaluable opportunity for promising start-ups of the country to raise seed capital and hire college students as a full time employee or as an intern. It was a great opportunity for the students as start-ups with immersion experiences from almost all fields ranging from software computing to marketing were present. It was a host to about 15 start-ups like IntelliAnts, Serenus Networks, KCG, Rang De, Buzz Network etc. Also there was a Venture Capitalists panel discussion through which these start-ups had an opportunity for getting funding. A networking lunch was organised to facilitate the interaction between all of them.

Apart from that guest lectures by eminent personalities like Padma Shri Prof. Anil K. Gupta, Vice Chairman of National Innovation Foundation & Founder of SRISTI and GIAN; Mr. Richard Kemp, Co Director, MBA Executive Experiences at Open University, UK were organised. An alumni talk by Dr. Harish Hande, co-founder SELCO & Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 was commenced. Informative workshops like WiCamp by Wipro, Innovative & Contemporary revenue model in Web industry by Seeders and Power of One by One Billion Minds also added value to the event.

The final rounds of the six International Competitions: Concipio (B-Plan Competition), Envision (Product Design Competition), Eclairez (Social Entrepreneurship Challenge), Negocio (Web and Mobile Application based Competition), Cleantech Challenge and Pensez (Case Study Competition) took place during the summit. Mr. Manoj Mandelia, Canopus was the proud winner of both Concipio and Cleantech Challenge. He is also one of the finalists for RICE University B-Pan Competition.

Three days prior to the summit a freshers’ event Bizturkz was organised to give the freshers a general overview of the summit. The quiz contest saw a massive participation from the first year students where a large number of goodies were distributed. Two teams went on to compete in the final round in which they had to sell Amul products. The team making maximum sale won. During the summit on-spot events like TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday) was organised. In this the participants had to submit a business idea from which 10 ideas were shortlisted and people invested virtual money in those ideas. Events like Sales Pitch and Online Video Contest were also coordinated.

We would like to thank all our enthusiastic participants who come from every corner of the country. Your participation keeps our spirits alive. We extend our gratitude our guests and sponsors without whom, Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2011 would have been impossible.

If by any chance you feel that the summit has reached its peak, we're happy to tell you that you are highly mistaken. Because this time, in January 2012, you will witness something you've never witnessed before, feel something that you've never felt before. It's going to be more splendid than all its previous editions. Be there at IIT Kharagpur to witness the spectacular Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2012.
