Mariska Du Preez
Raised in a home where the pursuit of knowledge was encouraged and an entrepreneurial spirit fostered, Mariska spent her formative years teaching extra maths classes, managing bands and launching business ventures.
After obtaining her honours degree in marketing, business strategy and information management, she worked for a business engineering firm before starting her own strategic marketing consultancy. Academia beckoned again and Mariska joined the MIH Media Lab to do a Masters degree in Socio Informatics. She is busy finishing her thesis on mobile technology adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa. Passionate about people, technology and her continent, Mariska recently joined Africa's largest social network as Developer Relations Ninja.
Career and personal highlights include being selected as one of SA's Brightest Young Minds in 2010; co-curating TEDxStellenbosch from 2010 to 2012; doing social media and website editing for the Praekelt Foundation; founding Girl Geek Dinners Cape Town in 2011 and co-founding #hackSTB in 2012.
