Georgia offers several tax credits applicable to early-stage companies. This presentation will focus on the two credits that start-ups can monetize before they have any profit or income tax liability: the Georgia Employer’s Jobs Tax Credit and Research Tax Credit.

Jeff Weinkle, CPA has been a part of the tax practice of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP since 2008. He has significant experience in the taxation of closely-held businesses and specializes in state and local taxation, international planning, and general tax research.
Jeff provides tax consulting services to a variety of clients on state and local tax matters with regard to income, franchise, sales & use, and property taxes. In addition, he supports the tax and business advisory practices with general tax research and has authored articles on tax credits, Georgia legislation, stock option reporting, and international tax planning.
Jeff earned a BBA in economics from the University of Georgia in 2007 with a focus on accounting and anthropology.
Jess Johannesen joined the tax practice group of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP in 2012. He obtained a BBA and Masters in Accountancy from the University of Georgia.
Jess has experience in the preparation of corporate and individual taxes, state and local taxation, transfer pricing, and general tax research. He has provided tax consulting services to several gaming clients related to the Georgia Film Tax Credit and performs services related to income and sales & use taxation to businesses across several different industries. In addition, Jess has experience with a wide range of international clients assisting in the preparation of transfer pricing studies.
