ABOUT THE CLASS
This class will walk you through the core fundraising types: Self Funding, Friends and Family, Angel, Bank Loans, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Crowdfunding and Customers. Students will walk through term sheets in a negotiation. Learn what an investor is looking for from the entrepreneur.
To provide basic direction and strategies around fundraising for startups.
To educate startups on pitfalls and common practices in term sheet negotiation.
To provide theory and structure behind each stage of the fundraising lifecycle.
Walk through an income statement for a startup that outlines key revenue calculations and expense assumptions over a multi year period
Walk through a cash flow statement for a startup and tie in income statement numbers as a point to showcase factors that affect cash flow such as receivables, payables, taxes, etc.
Discuss and compile key assumptions needed for developing these statements
Walk through, at a high level, a balance sheet and the importance of this and other documents for the success of the entrepreneur’s business.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR, Joel Fontenot
Joel Fontenot is a Managing Director of Trailblazer Capital, a venture capital firm based in Dallas, Texas and focused on early stage and growth opportunities in Texas and Oklahoma. Joel is a former Board Member of Spawn Labs, Inc. a Trailblazer investment he led and sold to GameStop in 2011. He serves on the Board of Directors of NetSocket, Inc., Koupon Media, Inc. and cycleWood Solutions. Previously, Joel worked for Cisco Systems, Inc. He joined Cisco through the acquisition of Metreos Corporation where Joel served as CEO and Founder.
