An Introductory Ruby on Rails Workshop
Wednesday, February 13, 2013
11525 Stonehollow Dr #100, Austin, TX (map)
*The entrance is on the corner of BuildASign building that's closest to the intersection of Stonehollow and Metric. Inside there will be signs directing you to the meeting room.
Bring your laptop and learn to build a simple web application with Ruby on Rails in this hands-on workshop.
To set up a development environment, we will first spend some time installing Rails (version 3.2) and Ruby (1.9.2 or 1.9.3), as well as sqlite3 or mysql. Then we will create a simple application, such as a to-do list or a friends list.
About the instructor:
Nola Stowe has been programming practically everyday since she was 13. She's spent 5 years in PHP and need a challenge, so she learned Perl and Ruby, hopping on the Rails bandwagon in 2005. When she is not coding, she is coding more, helping run DevChix, mentoring new developers, and watching cooking shows to find things for her husband, a.k.a. Personal Chef, to make for her.
