New Freeside recruit Kirk will be leading this team to develop and test for the Open Source Ecology project.
The Open Source Ecology project is focused on developing "[t]he Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) ... a modular, DIY, low-cost, high-performance platform that allows for the easy fabrication of the 50 different Industrial Machines that it takes to build a small, sustainable civilization with modern comforts."
In other words, this team will be contributing, along with several other teams, in making all of the necessities of civilization cheap and open source.
Specifically, this team will be working on the following -
- Planning and executing successful replication of the OSE Compressed Earth Brick press and/or other relevant OSE projects.
- Brainstorm and research potential applications of OSE technology for urban-based makerspaces and urban communities in general.
- Identify potential relationships with other build shops or "village" projects where there is positive collaboration potential.
- Establish direct communication with OSE and/or Factor e Farm (FeF) to determine what contributions we may be able to make for pre-replication stage OSE product development. In particular, there are a number of IT tasks they are looking for help on.
Email [masked] for more details or if you have a question.
Membership is not requires to attend these meetings or to take our classes. However, all guests will be required to sign liability waivers, which is standard practice for makerspaces.
Freeside membership does get you 24hr access to the space with your RFID card, access to our Member message board, invitations to member meetings, a vote on how the space is used, and more!
Many of our members use the message board to find out about projects and events, so there will likely be more people than the Meetup RSVP count indicates.
