Building themes for Shopify is easier than you might think. All you need to get started is an understanding of HTML and CSS.
This FREE half day session will be led by Shopify Design Advocate Keir Whitaker - himself, a Shopify store owner. It is designed to introduce web designers and front-end developers to all aspects of building a theme, from the basics right through to more advanced techniques, to give you and your clients ultimate flexibility. This session will also introduce you to the Shopify Partner Program. The Shopify Partner Program allows designers and developers to build a business around the Shopify platform.
Shopify is used by over 40,000 online stores and powers many of today’s leading online retailers. With knowledgeable Shopify theme builders in high demand, it's a great opportunity to expand your skill set.
Session outline
Stores - An appreciation of some of the most well known Shopify stores.
The platform - A look at the main features of the platform and how the admin functions relate to themes.
Themes - A solid look at how a theme is structured as well as an intro to Liquid, the Shopify template language.
Advanced theming - Going deeper into Liquid you'll learn how to really customize your themes, for example producing product specific templates and how theme settings can enable your clients to easily customize their site.
Integrating Shopify - Learn different approaches to integrating Shopify into existing projects.
Resources - A quick whizz round the amazing resources on offer for designers and developers using Shopify, including the theme and app stores.
