Leslie Fishlock was tired of girlfriends coming to her with their computer problems. Fishlock, then owner of a web development firm, thought there should be a friendly, low-pressure program where the average woman or girl could learn more about computers without being overwhelmed or being made to feel stupid.

There wasn’t such a program, so she started one: Geek Girl. What began on Cape Cod in 2008 has spread nationwide and now has an office in San Diego. It includes meet ups, conferences and seminars across the country and covers everything from Computing 101 to social media to app building.

Fishlock talks about why she loves being an entrepreneur and what it’s like to run a startup in San Diego.
