The world economy has disappointed this year with its jobless recovery and continuing financial instability. Clearly, the country needs more entrepreneurs. A recent poll in the U.S. shows that those ages 18-34--the so-called “Millennial Generation”--are that entrepreneurial bunch. Fifty-four percent of “millennials” either want to start a business or already have started one. And judging by last week’s vibrant Global Entrepreneurship Week, this seems to be a global phenomenon and one driven by people determined to do good and do well.

Diaspreneurship
Diasporans are natural bridges between cultures and systems, but their diplomatic and developmental potential remains largely untapped. During Global Entrepreneurship Week in Washington DC, the U.S. Department of State, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Kauffman Foundation and Univision Networks hosted Unleashing IdEA to develop ideas for harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit of diaspora communities. 'Learn to Earn Act' Introduced
While hundreds of US colleges, universities and high schools were celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA, a new bill was introduced to Congress that encourages participation in entrepreneurship education programs. Sponsored by Congressman Dave Loebsack of Iowa, the 'Learn to Earn Act of 2011' seeks to create incentives for states and local school districts to implement high-quality entrepreneurship programs in communities all across the country.
