With stadiums rising across the country for the 2014 World Cup soccer tournament and in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics, it is clear Brazil itself is rising on the world stage. The country’s economic growth has led it to overtake the UK as the world's sixth-largest economy while the announcement last week that it won the bid to host the next Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) will spotlight the role that entrepreneurs have played in the country’s newfound economic prowess and international standing.

JOBS Act Set To Sail Through
IWhile the Senate approved the JOBS Act late last week, it attached an amendment that requires House approval before the legislation makes it to President Obama to be signed into law. However, the amendment—which increases investor protections in crowdfunding—is not enough to derail the hugely popular legislation which is expected to sail through the House easily this week. According to a new paper from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, development spearheaded by entrepreneurs and startups could create a "virtuous circle" of growth and reform to overcome violence and weak governance in Pakistan and other fragile states where traditional development programs have failed.
