The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is now accepting nominations for the Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research (KJFF). The Kauffman Foundation will award up to seven Junior Faculty Fellowship grants to junior faculty members in the United States whose research has the potential to make significant contributions to the body of literature in entrepreneurship.
U2's Bono is the only one championing the cause of startups in the fight for poverty reduction and sustainable economic growth--and it isn't restricted to Africa or emerging economies either. A new study by the Goldwater Institute points to a "strong connection between a state's rate of entrepreneurship and declines in poverty"--put simply, more entrepreneurs equals less poverty.
The entrepreneurship policy environment in emerging economies may not be a significant obstacle to starting and growing new firms after all – at least if you ask high-growth entrepreneurs in those countries. That is one of the overarching findings in a paper released last week by Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) following a survey of more than 3,000 high-impact entrepreneurs in 34 countries.

you look in the media these days you see alleged signs of impending economic
doom—from the ‘financial cliff’ threatening to punish United States
policymakers if they can’t reach agreement soon to the Eurozone crisis with the
Greek economy on the edge of collapse. Certainly all very troubling, but it is
only one side of the coin. For the past 10 days, I have seen the other side—a
side full of hope and promise thanks to a burgeoning movement to embrace
entrepreneurship.

Today marks the official opening of Global Entrepreneurship Week, now celebrated in 131 countries. Throughout this week, roughly 25,000 partner organizations will be actively engaged in holding 35,000 events, activities and competitions--engaging more than 7 million participants and equipping them with the skills and connections to take the next step in their entrepreneurial journey. But GEW is more than just a celebration, it is attracting new talent to the field and supplementing grassroots startup energy with top down endorsements that legitimize entrepreneurship.
After the longest pre-election recess in history, members of Congress return to the status quo in Washington, DC this week for a lame duck session. Very few hearings are currently on the books, but you can expect there to be a lot of discussions over the next month or two about the looming fiscal cliff.
WASHINGTON, DC – Nov. 12, 2012 – Dropifi’s web messaging platform that seeks to supersede the traditional “contact us” form has earned the Ghanaian tech startup the grand prize of 2012 Startup Open, a competition for startups with high-growth potential featured as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2012. Dropifi was selected today out of 50 companies announced last month as the “GEW 50,” the best and brightest new startups around the globe.
