No relevant hearings are scheduled while Congress observes the Thanksgiving recess.
The House is back in session with a full slate of hearings throughout the week. And while there is little going on in the Senate, the Joint Economic Committee will discuss “Driving Innovation and Job Growth through the Life Sciences Industry.”
While members of the House are back in their home districts for a two-week recess, the Senate has several committee hearings and events that may be of interest to entrepreneurs and followers of the startup ecosystem. The economic dialogue between U.S. and China gets a look from the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs while others focus on less government IT spending, the government’s role in energy innovation and innovations in health care delivery.
Members of the House are back in their districts for the week. Meanwhile, a handful of hearings is lined up in the Senate, including a progress report on the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.
Legislation to reauthorize and modernize the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs gets marked up in a committee hearing on the House side while mobile phones come under review in the Senate.
As major media outlets continue to show wall-to-wall coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden, Congress carries on with a relatively light collection of hearings that are of interest to followers of the entrepreneurial economy.
A heavier schedule for the House than the Senate in the week ahead, including hearings on immigration & jobs, the rising cost of employer-based health care, and the tax system’s impact on job creation.
Both houses of Congress are out of town for a State / District Work Period. However, a few field hearings are scheduled on the House side dealing with energy & education and how they relate to job growth.
A few hearings in the Senate focused on federal R&D and clean energy and jobs are in store for the remainder of the week, while the House looks at the SBA budget, SBIR and other issues.
Secretary Geithner is scheduled to appear before the House Committee on Small Business to talk about access to capital and credit while the Budget Committee examines the long-term budget outlook with CBO director Douglas Elmendorf. On the Senate side, the Judiciary Committee tackles intellectual property law enforcement efforts.
