New Bills to Support Green and Women’s Entrepreneurship

Mark Marich

The House Small Business Rural Development, Entrepreneurship and Trade Subcommittee approved a series of bills last Thursday (04/30) to authorize and expand several Small Business Administration programs.

Some of these new bills have an interesting focus on "green entrepreneurs." For example, a bill sponsored by Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill) seeks to authorize $310 million for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program and fund courses in energy efficiency and green technology.

The subcommittee also approved legislation introduced by Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) authorizing $42 million in grant funding for women's entrepreneurship and small business development outreach.

Yet another approved bill authorizes funding for a volunteer program using retired small business owners and executives to provide counseling for small-business startups.
