For one week the world unites, across borders and languages, to celebrate entrepreneurs and innovators...to celebrate the world’s job creators.
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) was started three years ago by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Kauffman CEO Carl Schramm to inspire people across the globe to think twice about entrepreneurship. For some, entrepreneurship is a way of life; the innovator who can’t help but tinker with technology in the garage or the son or daughter who’s handed down the family business that was once built from nothing. For those individuals, taking risks is engrained in their being.
GEW not only encourages more people to think like that; it gives people throughout the world the tools they need to explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. For this week, more than 25,000 partner organizations across 123 countries host more than 40,000 activities and engage with more than 7 million people. From large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, GEW connects would-be entrepreneurs to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors and in doing so, introduces them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.
The United States isn’t alone in its dependency on entrepreneurship. And during GEW the world comes together to recognize its importance, celebrate its outcomes, and encourage more of it.
