Are the Startup Jobs in Your State?
Thom Ruhe, Director of Entrepreneurship, The Kauffman Foundation
In this week’s Huffington Post, the “Top 13 States for Startup Hiring” were named, according to StartupHire. I’ll proudly boast that my home state of Ohio was on the list. And as a resident and general entrepreneurship enthusiast, I know the efforts Ohio is making, at both the state and community levels, to support its entrepreneurial companies and give them the tools and resources they need to create those jobs.
But it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. The article noted that while they’re creating jobs, startups are having a difficult time filling those technical positions. Last week, Kim-Mai Cutler, a blogger on TechCrunch, wrote about about the means young tech startups in San Francisco are going to, trying to compete with larger companies for the perfect talent fit. They’re now holding “help wanted” signs along a commonly-commuted CalTrain station.
So I ask, did your state make the list of the top states for startup hiring? Will it in the future? And if so, does it have the talent pool to fill the jobs?
