The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation has introduced a series of online videos featuring entrepreneurial lessons for the Khan Academy's 6 million student users per month.

Giles Shih, President and CEO of BioResource International, is one of the entrepreneurs featured in the video interviews. In these three videos, Shih discusses his company strategy, the effects of his education and his journey as an entrepreneur.

  • Producing "big green chickens" BioResource International focuses on growing healthier and bigger chickens by means of a natural feed supplement. The company markets the product as an eco-friendly option that produces less digestion pollution for feed mills and is a general step toward battling world hunger.
  • Importance of problem solving After explaining the "three legs of the stool" that make a good startup, Shih focuses on how to continue that success. "A good company is only as good as the last problem that they have been able to solve. If you can't solve some problem you are always going to be constrained by that."
  • Learn as you go "I wanted to do something that had an immediate impact," said Shih as he talked about leaving school and moving into entrepreneurship. "I never took a business course ever before I started the company. I just learned by doing, being persistent, diligent and being honest about what I could or couldn't do."

The Khan Academy provides free online educational materials that support personalized education for users of all ages in a scalable way. In the last two years, the organization has delivered more than 300 million lessons and 1.3 billion exercise problems.

The Kauffman Foundation is focused on advancing any type of economic independence through education and experiences. The new online series will have educational benefits for healthcare and life science entrepreneurs.
