State of Entrepreneurship Address: A Roadmap for State Growth

Mark Marich

Heading into what promises to be a heated general election year, the Kauffman Foundation has turned the focus of its third annual State of Entrepreneurship Address back to the state and local level. Later this week at the National Press Club, Benno Schmidt, the Foundation’s interim president, will present “A Roadmap for State Growth,” touching on a number of proposed recommendations regarding state and local laws and regulations—that won’t break policymakers’ budgets.

Two related reports are scheduled for release at the event—‘Startup Act for the States’ and ‘A License to Grow: Ending State, Local, and Some Federal Barriers to Innovation and Growth in Key Sectors of the U.S. Economy.’

Joining Schmidt will be the leadership of the National Governors Association, Governor Dave Heineman from Nebraska (chair) and Governor Jack Markell (vice chair) and a panel of experts, including:

  • Bill Aulet, senior lecturer and managing director, the Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship
  • Morris Kleiner, professor and AFL-CIO chair, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota
  • Oliver Goodenough, fellow at The Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School
  • Bob Litan, vice president for policy and research, Kauffman Foundation (moderator)

The State of Entrepreneurship Address will be webcast live Thursday, February 9, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Stay tuned to for a link to the webcast.
