By popular demand, this month's UX Meetup will focus on the topic of "Getting into UX as a Career". Join us as our four panelists tell their unique stories and open up for questions and discussion among the group.
Our panelists are looking forward to meeting with those who are interested in becoming UX professionals!
Kate MacCorkle is a Usability Analyst at AppFolio, Inc. where sheconducts prototype and usability studies to validate new features in agrowing number of SaaS products. Inspired by her experiences as an office worker and occasional technical writer, she went back to school for an MS in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle. Kate is delighted to be working for acompany that considers great user experience the foundation forlongterm success. She is a member of ASIS&T (The Information Association for the Information Age).
Karen Cross is passionate about helping people and creating compelling experiences that solve real problems. Her background spans interaction design, workflow analysis, user research, and overall user experience. While working at companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, and a variety of startups, she has contributed to work on the XBox, Ford SYNC, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and a variety of enterprise tools. She is now making a difference in people’s lives by enabling lifelong learning at lynda.com. She holds a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University.
Kimberly Eberz is a UX Engineer at QAD. She began working at QAD 7 years ago as a Quality Analyst for the UI Design Group. About 2 years ago she began transitioning in to a UX role, and since then has been the sole UX engineer at QAD. Being the "lone wolf" has allowed her to play a large role in defining and driving the UX effort at QAD. Kimberly has explored many competencies of UX including research, design and evaluation.
Stephen Ruiz is an information architect and user experience expert. He is the founder and managing director of Agentes Consulting -- a full services user experience agency in Los Angeles. He has 14+ years of experience in interactive technology, UX design, information architecture and digital strategy. His expertise allows him to develop thorough, realistic information architecture plans that support business needs and objectives. By understanding business requirements and goals, he helps capture the strategy, content, and features that become blueprints for websites, apps, software systems and business logic.Over the course of his career, Mr. Ruiz has led brainstorming sessions on functional requirements, content organization, process flow, UI specifications, and technical integration. He has extensive experience with user research, concept testing and usability testing. Mr. Ruiz has also worked in many other digital capacities, functioning as a user-interface designer, interactive producer and cyber security team leader.
